Week 3: Word Classes III – Adverbs, Prepositions, Conjunctions & Interjections

Overview: This module covers four fundamental parts of speech: Adverbs (Manner, Time, Place), Prepositions, Conjunctions (Coordinating: FANBOYS), and Interjections, with 20 examples for each category.

1. Adverbs

Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs, providing extra details about how, when, or where an action occurs.

A. Adverbs of Manner (20 Examples)

Adverbs of manner describe how an action is performed.

1. She solved the complex problem easily.
2. The runner finished the sprint swiftly.
3. He explained the core concept clearly.
4. The rain fell heavily throughout the night.
5. They walked quietly into the examination hall.

B. Adverbs of Time (20 Examples)

Adverbs of time specify when or how frequently an action happens.

C. Adverbs of Place (20 Examples)

Adverbs of place indicate where an action occurs.

6. He walked downstairs to get a glass of water.
7. They moved abroad to pursue higher studies.

2. Prepositions (20 Examples)

Prepositions show relationships in time, space, or direction between a noun/pronoun and other elements in a sentence.

4. He has been studying since early morning.
5. The cat hid under the large sofa.
6. They traveled by train across the state.

3. Coordinating Conjunctions: FANBOYS (20 Examples)

Coordinating conjunctions connect words, phrases, or independent clauses of equal grammatical rank (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So).

1. He remained home, for he felt unwell.
2. She revised her notes, for the exam was approaching.
3. She loves reading history, and she enjoys solving math puzzles.
4. He bought a notebook, and he started writing immediately.
5. They completed the assignment, and they submitted it on time.

4. Interjections (20 Examples)

Interjections are words or short phrases used to express sudden emotions, exclamations, or reactions.
